James F. Carland, III, MD
Chair
Dr. Carland is Chairman of MICA’s Board of Trustees and served as MICA’s President and CEO from 1997 to 2022. He previously practiced pediatrics for 28 years, and was twice elected President of Banner Desert Medical Staff and twice elected Chair of the PIAA Board (nka MPLA). He is the recipient of multiple distinguished service awards, including the Maricopa County Medical Society Lifetime Achievement Award.

Karen J. Nichols, DO,
Vice Chair
Dr. Nichols is the immediate past Chair of the Board of Directors of the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education. She previously served as Dean of Midwestern University/Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine from 2002 to 2018 and is the former President of the American Osteopathic Association, American College of Osteopathic Internists, and Arizona Osteopathic Medical Association. She earned her medical degree from Kansas City University and a master’s in healthcare administration from Central Michigan University.

James G. Leiferman, MD
Secretary
Dr. Leiferman is a pediatrician and Director of the Pediatric Hospitalist Program at Yuma Regional Medical Center. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. He earned his medical degree from the University of Nebraska College of Medicine and completed his residency at Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital.

David A. Pedersen, MD
Treasurer
Dr. Pedersen is a board-certified general surgeon in Tucson, Arizona, and Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Arizona's Department of Surgery. He has been recognized on the Dean's List for Excellence in Teaching in Clinical Sciences in multiple years. He earned his medical degree from the University of Arizona and served as a Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Naval Medical Corps Reserve.

R. Allan Allford
Mr. Allford is the former President and CEO of Delta Dental of Arizona, serving for 11 years and has over 43 years of executive leadership experience, he specializes in corporate governance, strategic development, and finance. He is a Fellow of the National Association of Corporate Directors, he has served on multiple Arizona boards. Mr. Allford is a CPA and earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Kansas.

Thomas J. Betlach
Mr. Betlach is a Partner at Speire Healthcare Strategies and a nationally recognized expert in Medicaid and healthcare policy. He served in Arizona’s healthcare system for 28 years, including as Director of AHCCCS. Mr. Betlach sits on the boards of the NCQA and Circle the City. He holds a master’s in public administration from the University of Arizona and a bachelor’s from the University of Wisconsin.

Jeffrey C. Broberg, MD
Dr. Broberg is a board-certified obstetrician-gynecologist at Valley Woman’s Health in Provo, Utah. He previously served as Chair of OB/GYN and Medical Director for Women and Children at Utah Valley Hospital. He earned his medical degree from Wake Forest University and completed his residency at David Grant Medical Center, Travis AFB, CA.

Katie M. Campuzano, MD
Dr. Campuzano is a Board Certified obstetrician-gynecologist and owner of Prescott Women’s Clinic. She earned her medical degree from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska, and completed her OB/GYN residency at the University of Connecticut/Hartford Hospital combined program. She has also held leadership positions at Yavapai Regional Medical Center.

Gopi Cherukuri, MD
Dr. Cherukuri is a board-certified cardiologist and Partner at Atria Heart in Scottsdale, Arizona, specializing in general, interventional, and sports cardiology. He is also faculty at the University of Arizona School of Medicine. He completed residency and fellowships at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center. He serves as Team Cardiologist for the Arizona Cardinals and sits on St. Mary’s Food Bank’s Advisory Board. He has been recognized as a Top Doc by Phoenix Magazine over 20 times.

Roseanne K. Collins, MD
Dr. Collins is a board-certified family medicine physician and managing partner of Mountain View Family Physicians. She earned a medical degree from the University of Arizona and completed residency at Banner Good Samaritan Hospital, serving as chief resident. Dr. Collins teaches at the University of Arizona’s Phoenix medical school. She also serves as a Board member of the MICA Medical Foundation.

Christina Kwasnica, MD
Dr. Kwasnica is the Chair of Physical Medicine and Neuro-rehabilitation at Barrow Neurological Institute at Dignity Health St. Joseph’s Hospital. She co-founded Valley Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, providing physician management to Barrow’s until 2023. She is a board-certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation. ember of multiple medical academies. She earned her medical degree and completed her residency at Northwestern University.

Marc L. Leib, MD
Dr. Leib is a board-certified anesthesiologist. He has held leadership roles in the American Society of Anesthesiologists, Arizona Society of Anesthesiologists, and Arizona Medical Association. He earned his medical and law degrees from the University of Arizona. He completed a surgical internship at UC San Diego, followed by an anesthesia residency and neuro-anesthesia fellowship at the University of Wisconsin.

Steven P. Matteucci, JD
Mr. Matteucci has a background as a financial expert and has served as a corporate attorney. He earned his law degree from Northwestern University and undergraduate degree from Denison University. He is the former Chair of the Arizona Science Center Board, Tournament Chairman and President of the Thunderbirds – WM Phoenix Open, member of Greater Phoenix Leadership, and Vice Chair of the Maricopa Partnership for Arts & Culture. He serves on the Board of the MICA Medical Foundation.

J. Greg Rula, MD, FACS
Dr. Rula is a board-certified general surgeon and past President of Advanced Surgical Associates, Ltd. He is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the UA College of Medicine, he has held leadership roles at Banner Desert Medical Center and Thomas Davis Medical Centers. He is the former Chair of the American College of Surgeons, Arizona District. He earned his medical degree from the University of Mississippi and completed his residency at Banner - University Medical Center Phoenix.

Michael A. Trainor, DO
Dr. Trainor is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic spine surgeon licensed in Arizona and Nevada. He practiced in Prescott, before joining Advanced Orthopedics and Sports Medicine in Las Vegas in 2015. He is a member of multiple orthopedic organizations. He earned his bachelor's degree with honors from the University of Notre Dame and completed medical school and residency at Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine.
